These Committees need support from parents for us to sponsor events. We are looking for new volunteers for social events this year as our past chairs have “retired”. Please come help sponsor a single event and join in the fun!!!
Saint Pius X School strives to promote programs that cultivate self-esteem and self worth. Our school promotes not only academics, but sports and recreational programs in order to achieve this goal. Saint Pius X School will offer students in Grade K through Grade 2 skill-based instructional programs. Grades 3 and 4 will be introduced to intramural sports. We encourage all children, regardless of skill or experience, to participate in team sports.
To accomplish our goal, parental involvement is essential. We need to recruit volunteers to help within these programs. Specifically we need basketball coaches for grades K-2 for Saturday morning winter basketball, and coaches for our 3-4th teams to be enrolled in the winter Dennis Recreation basketball league.
The Cafeteria Committee volunteers help serve lunch to the students. We would like to have 3 volunteers for each day so that lunch runs smoothly. The kids love to see us at lunchtime!
This committee coordinates the year-end collection and sale of “gently used” uniforms at our clothesline sale in June. Clothes can be purchased and dropped off all year long. The proceeds from the sale of the uniforms are used to support the school library. This is volunteer work which entails no meetings at all. Just help us keep the clothesline rack by the teacher lunchroom in order and help with the year end sale.
The Educational Enrichment Committee works together with teachers to bring outside speakers and programs into the school to enhance the school curriculum during school hours. Authors, artists, story tellers, etc. help to make our students’ education more interesting and fun. This year we hope to explore more field trips to culturally significant areas on the Cape and in the greater Boston area. We welcome anyone who would like to help in this endeavor or who might have avenues which will lead us to this goal.
Saint Pius X School strives to offer our students a strong academic education within a Catholic centered environment. The purpose of fundraising at Saint Pius X School is to enable the facility to be enhanced as well as to support school programming and events. Our fundraising efforts support all of the programs sponsored by the Friends of SPXS and provide a significant source of financing for the school.
The goal of the Grant Writing Committee is to research and prepare grants to benefit our students and school. We need volunteers eager to research grants and volunteers experienced in grant writing. Specifically we need help researching grants as the teachers and administration will work with our current committee chair to actually write the grants.
This committee works with the librarian. The Birthday Book Program, the Books and Beyond reading incentive programs and the Memory Book Program are important means of enriching the library program, and promoting the love of reading. This committee also coordinates the Scholastic Book Fair at school each year. Please sign up for any time that you can give to our library. The love of reading enriches our children’s lives and promotes academic success.
The Outreach program seeks parents and parish volunteers to plan and carry out a variety of classroom based and school wide service activities. This committee designs, coordinates and implements programs. Examples include a local food pantry collection or giving of gently worn winter coats to an agency assisting those in need.
This committee spreads the word for Saint Pius X School. The primary function of this committee is to produce the school newsletter. It also keeps the school and parish community, as well as the local community, informed of Saint Pius School activities and our students’ accomplishments.
As the newsletter is such an important communication source for spreading the news of the happenings at the school and the achievements of our students, this year publication of the newsletter will be coordinated by a school staff member. Although the process will be coordinated “in house” by the school staff, will still need parent volunteers to help with process. We also hope to include opportunities for our students to help with publication of the newsletter. If you have flair with words and enjoy spreading the word of Saint Pius X School, this is a committee that needs you!
There are a Middle School and a Lower School social committee. These committees plan and coordinate social events for the students throughout the year. The events planned by the Social Committee are the high points of the year, socially, for the students. Different events provide an opportunity to bring together all of Saint Pius X School children, parents, staff, and the Saint Pius X Parish. Some examples of events planned in the past include: Halloween and Christmas parties, Ice Cream Socials, Sweetheart Dance- a Father (or special someone) /Daughter event, a Mother (or someone special)/ Son event, Pawtucket Red Sox Family Day, Middle School dances and karaoke nights and our year-end Field Day.
The Welcoming Committee is responsible for welcoming new parents into our school with a small reception. This committee is also responsible for Teacher Appreciation Day and for arrangements (i.e., juice, coffee, etc.) at school functions throughout the year. In the spring a new family picnic is planned to welcome our new friends to Saint Pius X School before the new school year begins.
